"Any recommendation for telephoto zoom less than RM1000? Should opt 70200 or 70300?No lens with VR for less than RM1000?For Nikon body.Thanks."

myLensDB.comYou can have a look on the Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro which costs around RM 700.
http://www.mylensdb.com/tamron-af-70-300mm-f4-5-6-di-ld-macro/

Or the Nikon AF Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4-5.6G but its not so recommended. It's better to save up and get the VR version one.
http://www.mylensdb.com/nikon-af-zoom-nikkor-70-300mm-f4-5-6g/

Also, you may want to consider the new Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR.
http://www.mylensdb.com/nikon-af-s-dx-nikkor-55-300mm-f4-5-5-6g-ed-vr/

70-200mm lenses are all of large aperture and pricey. The cheapest 70-200mm you can possibly find on market is the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L but it doesn't fit on Nikon anyway.

jyubonk "any recommendation for lens with f2.8 which suitable for portrait n landscape?"
On the date: September 09, 2010 11:11 am

myLensDB.comNormally, people would opt for wide angle lens (around 16mm effective focal length on 35mm) for landscape. Of course, you can use a 200mm lens to do landscape too!

For portrait, you can consider the range from 70-200mm.

What mount are you using? What is your budget?

Guest84 "i'm looking for a lens that suitable for both landscape and wildlife (birds & insects) photos. What are your recommendation?"
On the date: September 09, 2010 7:14 am

myLensDB.comHi Guest84,

Normally, people would opt for wide angle lens (around 16mm effective focal length on 35mm) for landscape. Of course, you can use a 200mm lens to do landscape too!

For insects, people tend to get 90mm macro lens. The higher focal length, the farther distance you can keep yourself from the insect.

For birds, not sure if you are talking about BIF (Bird in flight), if yes, then you need to get 300mm or higher.

I'm skeptic about being able to do all these in one single lens. Perhaps you should narrow down your criteria a little bit.

Good luck!

Guest "I am planning to get my first DSLR! WHat would the sifus here recommend? Nikon D3100 or Sony a33?"
On the date: September 09, 2010 4:07 am

myLensDB.comHi guest, Neither D3100 nor A33 has been released yet so there's isn't much reviews on them. Let's wait for a while and see how things go.

Watch out for this space for latest reviews/photos/links about these 2 models.

Jacky:

Hello Hugo, I am financially tight, is able to purchase either a Nikkor AF-S 35mm or SB-600. I am going to have major photography on Singapore trip.
Err, I should get the lens or an ext. flash for a versatile photography of portrait and landscape. Also in low light.

myLensDB.comI do not know what's your gear line-up so I'll just give it a shot based on the information that you provide.

It's unlikely that you will gain much advantage by having a flashgun if you are shooting landscape. A tripod would do much help though.

In low light, unless you are shooting people in the foreground, you will need a flashgun, or else, a tripod would be sufficient. If you are shooting things that are in slight motion (people) or do not have support (tripod), then you will need a fast lens like 35mm f/1.8.

Think about it and come back to me ya!

Sifu ... I'm newbie having D60 - would like to get some advice ... between 35mm n 50mm lens - which one I should grab ?
On the date: August 08, 2010 10:31 am

myLensDB.comSince your body do not have screw drive, often, people will go for AF-S series (Nikon) or go with third party (eg: Sigma). The popular ones would be...

1. Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G (http://www.mylensdb.com/nikon-af-s-dx-nikkor-35mm-f1-8g/)
2. Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G (http://www.mylensdb.com/nikon-af-s-nikkor-50mm-f1-4g/)
3. Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM (http://www.mylensdb.com/sigma-50mm-f1-4-ex-dg-hsm/)
4. Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM (http://www.mylensdb.com/sigma-30mm-f1-4-ex-dc-hsm/)

Depending on your budget, the 4 lenses I listed are ranging from RM900 to RM 2100.

On which focal length to take, it depends on your shooting behavior/preference, try to have a look on the samples photos taken by these lenses before deciding.

Also do note that DX (Nikon) and DC (Sigma) are not fit for full-frame cameras.

Good luck!

Joseph: Between Tamron 17-50 VC, Tamron 28-75 and Canon 24-105 which would you choose ? and why ? thanks
On the date: August 08, 2010 11:06 am

myLensDB.comHi, seems like you are using a crop body now. If you are not planning to upgrade to full frame anytime soon, then by all means get the 17-50 vc for its useful focal length for crop. a couple hundred bucks is justificable to get the vc version. 28 and 24 is not wide enough on crop but if you are going full frame then you can consider between these two.
